American Sycamore, chrysanthemum burnt orange, cinder block raised bed, home grown herbs, Meister Eckhart, Michelle Hoting, organic vegetables, Sonoma County, Thanksgiving 2014
I am grateful for your readership! This is our 10th month and we have seen the little blog grow. Mondays, when we show pictures and talk about our installs, are the most popular but the other days are good too! We wish you all a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. And for those that don’t celebrate this American holiday we wish you a very blessed day!
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you,” that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart

These burnt orange mums have been living at the end of our veggie bed for several years. They are left over from a color change in a clients urns on their porch. I couldn’t bare to throw them away. And each year they remind me why!
This will be our last blog post until December. We are going away on a much needed break from the day in and day out of running a small company. We are visiting Sonoma County. It is an area well know for wine and I am looking forward to walking through a few vineyards and doing a bit of wine tasting. We will be having Thanksgiving dinner with our dear friend Michelle Hoting, who moved to Santa Rosa a couple of years ago. She is a very talented jewelry artist; if you love nature you will enjoy her jewelry. Here is a link to her website. The weather is going to be in the high sixties during the day and low forties at night, perfect for walking, hiking and exploring. I lived in Sacramento from 1981-1987 and had time to explore much of Northern California. This will be Shawn’s first trip there. We are both excited!
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. To me it is about sharing a meal with family and friends after lots of cooking of delicious foods. It reminds me, like the Pilgrims, to be very grateful to mother earth for providing us with a cornucopia of food. You can see below our little garden is looking pretty ragged. The perennial herbs are still there. A bit of sage that is finally getting to see the light of day after being choked out by the basil. Our Chili Pequins are still producing peppers. And the rosemary that grows at the other end is spilling over.Shawn just planted some seeds for a small winter crop.
Happy Thanksgiving from Shawn and Laurin : )
Hope you all have a wonderful time! I love that area. I didn’t know you lived in Sacramento. I’ve also spent a lot of time around there since my in-laws live in various spots from Stockton up to Tahoe. Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a great Thanksgiving and vacation in Sonoma.
Those mums are amazing, I did not realize they would grow that well in a hot climate.

Thanks Shirley! Mums do great here as long as they have drainage. So I don’t plant them in the ground. I have some in pots that are 5 years old : )

California is always blessed with perfect weather unless of course there is fog. I even like the fog. Your pictures are inspiring.

I hope you do have some good vacations! I took that photo in Auburn California. Just this week we planted an October Glory Red maple (planing to blog about it : ) I am thinking it could be that or closely related. The leaves back lit were so lovely. Happy Thanksgiving!
